Stripping & Sanding

Professional Corn Cob Blasting Services

Corn cob blasting is a method used in finish removal that uses compressed air combined with a special blasting media, making it a superior choice for finish removal.

Traditional methods like chemical strippers and power washing can pose significant risks. Power washing also involves using a lot of water on the logs, requiring a drying period before staining. This method can also cause water to seep inside, leading to stains on interior logs, damaged flooring, and lead to other unforeseen issues. The water penetrates so deeply into the wood fibers that it may never fully dry out, potentially resulting in mildew growth under the stain, which can cause premature stain failure.

Chemical strippers come with their own set of challenges. If not completely rinsed off and properly neutralized, they can cause adhesion issues with the wood fibers of the logs. Additionally, the more effective strippers are often very caustic and harmful to the environment. This is especially concerning for properties with a well water supply or those located near lakes.

Our Commitment to Cleanliness and Safety

We take great pride in our clean-up process after corn cob blasting. In most cases, we collect about 99% of the corn cob media we've used, making sure that your site looks immaculate apart from the beautifully cleaned logs. The corn cob media is biodegradable and safe for the environment, making it an excellent choice for eco-conscious homeowners.

For more challenging projects where the old finish is particularly thick or hard, we offer glass bead blasting. This method is effective for removing old, dry paints that adhere strongly to the wood grain.

However, we do not recommend using sand for finish removal due to its potential harmful dust. For a safe, effective, and environmentally friendly way to remove old finishes from your logs, choose our professional corn cob blasting services. Osborn Buffing Brushes

After the blasting process we recommend having the logs Osborn brushed or lightly sanded with an orbital sander to help remove any remaining old material and give a nicer surface for the staining process.

Osborn brushing is like a light sanding with a stiff round plastic brush on a polishing motor that we buff the logs with.
