Chinking & Caulking
Both caulk and chink are designed to withstand the movement of a log home. For larger openings, using a Grip Strip backer rod helps to create a flat surface, which lets the chink stretch easily, much like a rubber band. A properly chinked or caulked log home will significantly improve energy efficiency, making it easier to cool and heat.
Staining
Picking the right stain for your log home is a decision you don't want to take lightly. Choose the wrong stuff, and you might be in for a pricey headache trying to fix it. Always go for a high-quality stain specifically made for log homes.
Maintenance
Log cabins, they sure are a labor of love! But boy, are they worth it when you're nestled inside on a chilly night. The thing is, you've got to be a bit more on top of upkeep than with a regular house. Take a stroll around your cabin a few times a year, like when the leaves start falling or when the flowers are blooming.
I want to thank M&M Log Home Repair for sealing our log cabin and completely curing our pest problem. Our newer log cabin was constantly overcome with flying insects...flies, lady beetles, wasps, etc. We tried everything we could think of to help reduce the bugs. Our cabin is our weekend getaway. Every visit we would spend the first half hour or so cleaning up the thousands of dead bugs under every window. It was difficult to prepare food because you had to watch for flies falling in your food. We hesitated to spend the money to have the log home professionally sealed, but it was worth every penny. Mike, I would like to say that Brian, Kirk and Josh did an excellent job corn blasting, staining and chinking my house. I have received numerous compliments on how good it looks.
